Many positives have come of research on children and
families. We have spent many years and
dollars learning about every aspect of human development. One very positive I
can think of up front is the research we have done on understanding developmental
disabilities. In times past if a child
was born with a disability, they may have been institutionalized, left to their
own devises or abused by unknowing or uneducated caregivers. We have spent years learning about
disabilities and genetic anomalies like Downs Syndrome and the Autism Spectrum
Disorders. Because of that research, children with these disorders and
syndromes can be connected with early intervention programs and continuing
education that teaches them skills that could lead to living an independent and
successful life.
Over the years there have been numerous studies done that have improved the quality of life for the human condition. I imagine it is through this continued research that we will continue to grow and change and continue to make important discoveries that will change how we understand human development.
Daveylynn,
ReplyDeleteWell, said. I am the mother of a special needs child as well as now I work with special needs children. It is very true what you said about children in the past who had been put away due to their abnormalities. My grandmother experienced this in 1958 she was handed a form right after my aunt's birth and told to sign to put her away. My grandmother refused and care for my aunt until the time of her death in 1966. At that time it was unheard of to keep a child that was born outside the norm. Thanks for your post.- Jolene Hernandez-Romero
Davey,
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe studies regarding human development have helped us understand children with special needs all the more. I have seen several children who have benefited from early intervention programs provided now that we know how crucial that can be. Hopefully continued research will help us understand even more to make these programs continue to be funded to help these children.
Davey ,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that children with special needs are more acceptable now then they was back in day. Early intervention is helping children special needs. Families are more open about their children with special needs and center are now acceptable to children with special needs.
