Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community

This week we again explored job opportunities in our related field:

Some national and international organizations that are conducting Early Childhood Education Research:
SRI International (http://www.sri.com/research-development/early-childhoodeducation):
SRI International is a nonprofit, independent research center serving government and industry. They work on some of the world’s most important problems, collaborating across technical disciplines to spark new ideas and solutions. Their research and innovations have led to new industries and products that impact people’s lives every day—from the computer mouse and interactive computing to medical ultrasound, cancer drugs, and much more.
SRI moves R&D from the laboratory to the marketplace to create high value and real innovation. And the platforms we build today are designed to meet tomorrow’s needs. For example, an artificial intelligence project for DARPA led to the development of Siri for Apple’s iPhone.
A high-quality preschool experience can help close achievement gaps. Federal, state, and local programs and policies are being designed to promote the healthy development of young children and to reduce academic deficits in early childhood education, which can begin before kindergarten. Collecting, analyzing, and applying high-quality information is critical to guide and improve programs and policies.
The Early Childhood Program at SRI's Center for Education and Human Services helps policymakers, funders, and practitioners improve the implementation and effectiveness of these programs and policies through its early childhood education research services and products. The program also supports accountability efforts to verify that public and private funds are invested wisely.
Research in early childhood education has shown that new media, including videos and computer games, also have a potentially important role in supporting learning in early childhood. Research from SRI's Center for Technology in Learning shows how, through the joint engagement of children and their caregivers, new media can address important needs, such as improving poor students' early reading and science skills.
Some of their demonstration projects are:
SRI Education is leading Task Order 17 case studies for the U.S. Department of Education's Policy and Program Studies Service on the implementation of Kindergarten Entry Assessments (KEA) in four states at the forefront of implementation.
SRI is synthesizing findings across model demonstration projects to identify factors that lead to high-quality implementation, sustainability, and wider adoption of evidence-based practices.

While I do not know if this group is hiring it would be interesting to be part of research that changes the way we look at the importance of early childhood education and teaching our youngest children.

I was also able to find this position:

The reason this position was interesting to me was that I would be able to be a teacher of parents. Magda Gerber came to California after working under Dr. Emmie Pickler to work with parents at the RIE Institute. She was very influential in her works with parents, even working with some famous parents.

I am finding out that if one wanted to relocate there are many options available that would afford me meaningful and relevant work with children and families, as well as educators of young children.
